Make it Colourful DECEMBER Challenge~AURORA BOREALIS

Happy Thursday everyone! Today starts a new challenge on the Make it Colourful Challenge Blog, and for the month of DECEMBER our challenge is: Aurora Borealis....also known as the Northern Lights! The Northern Lights are actually the result of collisions between gaseous particles in the Earth's atmosphere with charged particles released from the sun's atmosphere. Variations in color are due to the type of gas particles that are colliding.

You can find all sorts of inspiration on-line including some coloring tutorials on YouTube! I used the Little Village Scene and printed it on Spectrum Aqua Watercolor Paper and painted the sky with Spectrum Aqua Markers. I rubbed the markers across some plastic and used paintbrushes to paint the background. Then I added washi tape along the bottom edge of the green and used a thick, dry paintbrush to whisk white acrylic paint upward. I took a dry, thin, flat edge brush to pull lines up. Then I pulled up the washi tape. Next I splattered the white acrylic paint over the background to make stars.

 Spectrum Noir Aqua Markers:
Bud Green, Teal, Purple, Wildflower, Marine, Navy & Black

I used Copics for the Village Scene:
N0, N2, C3, C5, C7, Y11, E43, E44, E47
White Liquid Applique

Make it Colourful JULY Challenge~Casting Shadows

Hi everyone! Today starts a new challenge on the Make it Colourful Challenge Blog, and for the month of JULY our challenge is: CASTING SHADOWS.

I admit this was definitely another hard one for me. It definitely helps to look up photos online to use for inspiration. I decided to try something different this time and try for a watercolor feel to my Copic coloring. I used the MiC Old Oak Tree Digi.

I need some more practice, but I do like the softness and blend of the colors. I just need to work on the placement of the colors a little more.

To get the watercolor effect, I dabbed my colors on balled up pieces of Kleenex and then added Colorless Blender on top of the colors. Next I dabbed the Kleenex onto the X-press It Blending card. Pretty simple technique and I LOVE the watercolor look.

 Tree: E44, E47, E49
Leaves: YG23, YG67, G46
Grass: YG23, YG67, YG97, G28, G46
Shadow: C5, C7
Sky: Y15, YR68, R02, R08, R29, R35, B05
Colorless Blender

Make it Colourful~IN THE SPOTLIGHT Challenge using Rockstar Singer

2015-03-30 Spotlight (banner size)

Happy Monday everyone! I'm back to share my coloring of Rockstar Singer using the current Make It Colourful Challenge "IN THE SPOTLIGHT". There is a video and of course DT Inspiration on the Make it Colourful Blog. I will say that this challenge was a little intimidating to me. I fought it and Zoe had to slap me upside the head to get me out of my shock mode, LOL! However, she gave me the confidence and support to try it, and of course, after it's all said and done I'm glad I pushed myself to give it a go. It was such a mental thing!! But what you have to do is just start coloring and not overthink it!!

Here are some tips I found helpful as I was coloring. The first thing I did was use a pencil to lightly draw an oval around the base of my image along with diagonal lines going up so I had a visual of where the spotlight would be. Then I googled spotlight images to get a feel of how to color the light and dark areas.

2015-03-30 Spotlight
Next I just did my normal coloring of the entire image. On the stage I did lighter browns in the oval and used a darker brown outside the circle. Then I came in with black and grays to do the background. I colored this with a combo of Copics and Spectrum Noir Markers.2015-03-30 Spotlight (full view)
Copics:
Skin: E000, E00, E02, E11
Hair: Black, C7, Vo9, V04, BG78, BG15, G28, YG23
Purple: V01, V04, V09
Teal: BG10, BG13, BG15, BG18
Pink: RV02, RV05, RV09
Black: C3, C5, C7, Black
Stage: E41, E42, E43, E44
Spotlight area: N0, N2, C3
BLACK area: Spectrum Noir (IG5, IG7, IG9, IG10, Black)

Since she's a Rockstar I had to give her some funky hair! It starts off purple, then teal, then ends in green. :)

You still have time to enter our IN THE SPOTLIGHT Challenge HERE!
