Happy Thursday everyone! Today starts a new challenge on the Make it Colourful Challenge Blog, and for the month of DECEMBER our challenge is: Aurora Borealis....also known as the Northern Lights! The Northern Lights are actually the result of
collisions between gaseous particles in the Earth's atmosphere with
charged particles released from the sun's atmosphere. Variations in
color are due to the type of gas particles that are colliding.
You can find all sorts of inspiration on-line including some coloring tutorials on YouTube! I used the Little Village Scene and printed it on Spectrum Aqua Watercolor Paper and painted the sky with Spectrum Aqua Markers. I rubbed the markers across some plastic and used paintbrushes to paint the background. Then I added washi tape along the bottom edge of the green and used a thick, dry paintbrush to whisk white acrylic paint upward. I took a dry, thin, flat edge brush to pull lines up. Then I pulled up the washi tape. Next I splattered the white acrylic paint over the background to make stars.
